Due to a disagreement with the venue's landlord, The Deep Throat Sex Scandal has been forced to close. The show's home, off-Broadway's 45 Bleecker, which houses both the Bleecker Street Theatre and the Green Room, shut down unexpectedly on October 12. A notice posted on the venue's website says, "The theater is temporarily closed. Like many New Yorkers, we are in dispute with our landlord. Due to litigation, we have no comment at this time. Further information will be posted as it becomes available."
In addition to The Deep Throat Sex Scandal, 45 Bleecker is home to The Quantam Eye, Midnight in Havana, Pinkalicious and the upcoming Perfect Harmony. The Deep Throat company at the theater for the October 12 performance to find themselves locked out. The show cannot transfer to a new theater as the sets, costumes and other props are locked inside the theater and the company cannot gain access.
The Bleecker Street Theatre seats 302 audience members while the Green Room has a capacity of 120. The NoHo venue is also known for its lobby, which also fuctions as a bar and the art gallery. Past shows to have played the off-Broadway space include the Broadway-bound Colin Quinn: Long Story Short, Circumcise Me, The Great Australian Drag Show, Tales from the Tunnel and Puppetry of the Penis.
